VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

The Sanctuary’s volunteers are our most important resource – without them we could not continue our work to help Women and Children in desperate need. Volunteering is a great way to help people in need, whilst having fun, meeting new people, enhancing your skills and improving your health and well-being.

There are many ways to get involved or help out at one of our working bee events. Membership is only $10 per year. You can be a non-active member, or a volunteering member, or an intern member.  We would love to hear from you and welcome you as a part of our community.

How our Charity Operates

Our Charity is officially known as Retreat For Kids Inc. The actual premises are known as The Sanctuary Women, Children and Pet’s refuge.

As you know, we are privately funded. We could not exist without members, be they financial, volunteer, interns, donors or sponsors.  There are so many functions filled by our current band of dedicated members including; childcare, medical services, counselling, yoga, massage therapies, donation collections- both perishable and non-perishable, social media, administration, accounting, gardening, building, animal care and a myriad of others.

100% of the money raised or donated goes straight to the charity. None of the staff are paid; not even the CEO.

Benefits of Membership.

  1. For our charity. The more members we have, the more likely we are to receive a grant. We need to be viable in terms of public perception, as well as being able to give our cause publicity through advocacy.
  2. For our financial members. You will be able to:
  • attend special meetings and the AGM.
  • vote at those meetings.
  • nominate for Directors positions.
  • be covered by insurance both as a Director and a worker on site.
  • contribute both materially and financially
  • claim your membership on tax.

Become a Member  ( includes Interns and volunteers)

  1. Access our Membership Form from our web-page. It will be a pdf form.
  2. Fill it in online. Circle the Member section at the top. Complete the year. Sign and date it.
  3. Pay your membership fee of $10, either by e-banking, direct debit or in person at a CBA bank. Remember to put your name on the deposit, usually under “other information”, otherwise we won’t know who you are.
  4. Bank details : BSB: 064 480 Account Number: 10478994 CBA. Retreat For Kids Inc
  5. Send the membership form, with a photocopy of your receipt, back via email to admin@sanctuaryrefuge.com.au, or give it the admin officer in person.(Currently Gae York)
  6. Feel proud that you are directly helping the women and children at our refuge to recover from the trauma of domestic violence.

 Renew Your Membership  (this means anyone who has filled out a form during 2017, including Interns).

  1. Print out the Membership form from our web-page.
  2. You need only complete the details concerning name, phone and email address
  3. Circle the Membership section at the top. Complete the year. Sign and date it.
  4. Pay your membership fee of $10, either by e-banking, direct debit or in person at a CBA bank. Remember to put your name on the deposit, usually under “other information”, otherwise we won’t know who you are.

Nomination for a Position on the Management Committee of The Sanctuary Women, Children and Pet’s Refuge.

  1. You must be a financial member as per your receipt from a CBA branch.
  2. Your membership form must have been submitted to the Administration Officer.
  3. You must submit your resume to admin@sanctuaryrefuge.com.au for selection.
  4. This resume must be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to the AGM on 3rd Sept 2018
  5. You will be asked to include the answers to a short questionnaire for inclusion with your resume.
  6. You will be notified if your application for nomination has been successful one week prior to the AGM. You may be asked by the Executive for a more formal interview to ascertain your suitability, as is usual in any job application.
  7. You must be nominated and seconded by a financial member of The Sanctuary.
  8. Your nomination form must be submitted to the Returning Officer at admin@sanctuaryrefuge.com.au at least one day prior to the AGM on 3/8/18.
